NVCC Students Honored For Academic Excellence

Waterbury, Conn. –Two Naugatuck Valley Community College students have joined the ranks of this year’s top-performing community college students.

Jacklyn Orabona and Nicole Williams were selected among fourteen other honorees from across the state being recognized during the annual All-Connecticut Academic Team Awards ceremony held at the State Capitol in May. Honorees were selected for their academic achievements and leadership accomplishments.

The ceremony was sponsored by Northwestern Connecticut Community College, the Board of Regents for Higher Education Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of two-year colleges.

William’s grade point average of 3.80 within the nursing program and Willliam’s 3.75 GPA within the radiology program earned merit amongst their peers.

“To be at the State Capitol with some of the smartest students in CT was the biggest achievement of them all,”Orabana said. “These award ceremonies really help students get through the struggles we face in school. It makes everything we do worth it in the end.”

Vice President for Community Colleges at the Board of Regents David Levinson voiced praise for the hard-working group, thanking them for their perseverance.

“These students represent some of the best and brightest across our community college campuses, and they should be congratulated for their hard work, commitment and perseverance,” said Levinson. “Learning more about each of these students-including what they plan to do after graduation from community college-is inspirational and helps to ensure our focus remains on supporting the success of our students.”

Congratulations Jacklyn and Nicole!
