Waterbury, Conn. –The New England Association of Schools & Colleges granted Naugatuck Valley Community College re-accreditation this month, giving favorable reviews to many of the college’s recent initiatives.

The re-accreditation process occurs every 10 years in order for the Commission of Institutions of Higher Education to ensure quality learning environments within community and state colleges.

In a letter from NEASC Chairman Jean Wyld, NVCC received accolades for “operating in a deliberative and strategic manner with a high degree of self-discipline and self-understanding,” and for its high level of faculty, administrative leadership, and commitment to its students.

“With the leadership of a dynamic, forward-looking president, dedicated faculty and staff, prudent resource management and an entrepreneurial and student-centered spirit, Naugatuck Valley Community College is well positioned for future success,” Wyld wrote.

NEASC also gave kudos to NVCC for improving accessibility for minority populations through the local bus service and for its new advising program implemented in 2010 to increase the engagement of faculty and staff in the advising process.

NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., said she was "most pleased" that NEASC commended NVCC for its commitment to student success, community involvement, the achievement of its "Wildy Important Goals," and NVCC's progress in using data to enhance student services and improve accessibility for minority populations.

"It is wonderful to hear such positive feedback about our work towards improving student life, because all of our work is focused on increased student success," President De Filippis said. "The values that guide our work and support our students are recorded powerfully in our NEASC accrediting letter."
