Naugatuck Valley Community College Hosts All-College Meeting To Open Fall Semester
Naugatuck Valley Community College President, Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., opened the All College Meeting with a tribute to the memory of artist, Angelo Romano, whose generosity is exhibited in the colorful art collection featured in the Leever Atrium of the Fine Arts Center at the Waterbury Campus of the College. Her remarks concluded with a biographical video that highlighted Romano’s creative genius and inspiration.

The President welcomed distinguished guests, in particular, Dr. Peter Jacoby, NVCC Capital Campaign Champion, who shared an update of the Campaign for the New Center for Health Sciences.

Officers of the NVCC Student Government Association, Faculty Capital Campaign Advocates, Staff Capital Campaign Advocates and Alumni Capital Campaign Advocates presented concepts for a successful campus-wide campaign.

President De Filippis celebrated the “full occupancy of our new home at 190 Main Street in Danbury.” She invited the audience to celebrate the opening of the new expanded Danbury Campus on October 14, 2016.

She welcomed Felipe Karam, NVCC’s third Fulbright Scholar who provided the music for the welcome reception. Then she announced, that the work of the College has been noticed, “The U.S. Department of Education has announced that Naugatuck Valley Community College is one of 25 community colleges identified as being most effective with educating low-income students.  This analysis was based on our students’ employment and ability to pay off any student loans within three years after graduation.  The magnitude of this achievement is understood when we consider that there are more than 1,300 community colleges in the U.S.”   

The President cited the long list of successful projects at the College including the campus improvement project, the Founders Hall renovations, the successful move to new beautiful facilities in Danbury, the completion of a Facilities Master Plan and the Final Report on our 2013-2016 strategic plan.

She invited the audience to join her by reading a poem to “celebrate the harvest we have gathered in our Final Report for Strategic Plan 2013-2016.”  In unison, everyone read, “Harvest Home” by Bettye T. Spinner.

Dean Waldemar Kostrzewa presented the Final Report on the last 3-year Strategic Plan 2013-2016. Anna Pond, Strategic Planning Consultant showcased the new 10-year plan 2016-2026. The college units presented individual updates from Student Government, Faculty Senate, Academic Affairs, Student Services, Administration, Community Engagement and Human Resources.
