Provost James Troup explained that students can purchase tickets for round-trip travel between the Danbury Transportation Center, located one block from the new Danbury campus, and the downtown Waterbury Transportation Center at the significantly reduced rate of $2.00 per one-way trip. Once in Waterbury, students will take the CT Transit bus to the Chase Parkway Campus and then return the same way.  All bus trips within Waterbury and Danbury are free on the student’s UPass. The NVCC Student Government Association (SGA) voted this past spring to subsidize the cost of the Peter Pan Danbury link through its transportation fund. The College will match the SGA’s subsidy in the upcoming academic year.

The President cited this as a significant milestone in the development of opportunities for students from the entire region, “This is the next logical step in the College’s transportation initiative, begun in 2011 with evening bus service in the city of Waterbury. Economies grow and prosper when those in need of college preparation have access to affordable quality education. This transportation link will serve students by providing convenient, reliable transportation between the two NVCC campuses and our multiple academic offerings.”

Sarah Gager, Dean of Student Services, noted that this new initiative addresses transportation issues for students that have until now been unable to get to the Waterbury campus to access program specific courses that are not offered at the Danbury campus.  It also allows students at the Waterbury campus to take courses at the Danbury campus that better support their scheduling needs.  This new initiative is another support service offered at NVCC to help students achieve their academic goals.
