CLEP Test

CLEP Testing: Save Time! Save Money!

The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) gives you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know without having to attend classes. You can earn credit for knowledge you've acquired through independent study, prior course work, on-the-job training, professional development, cultural pursuits and/or internships.

Before taking a CLEP exam, it's important to consult your advisor to be certain that doing so will help meet the requirements of your degree or certificate program.

As of June 2023, CT State Naugatuck Valley no longer acts as a testing site for CLEP.  We recommend you go to the CLEP College Board website for more information and to review their schedules for remote testing or at another convenient location.

Which Spanish CLEP is best for me?

We offer 2 exams that can grant credit for Spanish.

  • Spanish Language offers up to 9 credits of Spanish (SPA*H101, H102, H201)
  • Spanish with Writing offers up to 12 credits of Spanish (SPA*H101, H102, H201, H202).

The main difference between these tests is that the Spanish with Writing test is longer and is not recommended to students who have never had to write academically or professionally in Spanish. You should discuss which test is best for you with your Academic Advisor.

CLEP Retest Policy

The CLEP program has a long-standing policy that an exam of the same title may not be retaken within a three-month period (90 days).  Scores of exams repeated earlier than three months will be canceled and test fees forfeited.

Candidates who are military service members and whose exams are funded by DANTES, may not repeat a previously funded exam of the same title; however, they may personally fund a retest after waiting the requisite period of time.
