NVCC’s Nursing Program Ranked among Connecticut’s Top Four
Nursing advocacy organization RegisteredNursing.org ranked Naugatuck Valley Community College’s associate in nursing program in the top four nursing programs in the state. UCONN-Avery Point, Yale University, and Sacred Heart came in at numbers one-three respectively. Nursing schools in the state were ranked by analyzing current and historical NCLEX-RN "pass rates", meaning the percentage of graduates who pass the exam, out of 20 RN programs in the state. NVCC nursing program graduates have maintained NCLEX-RN® (licensure) first-time pass rates above national averages, most recently 98% for the Class of 2018. Among other distinctions of the program are its high program completion rate (85%) and job placement rates. Ninety-five percent of surveyed graduates reported being employed within 12 months of graduation. More than 50% of graduates enroll in programs to advance their degree to a BSN or MSN.

“Our program results validate the competence of our nursing graduates. NVCC graduates are committed to providing quality health care to people in communities where they work and live. We believe our graduates are prepared for long-term success in a fulfilling health-care career,” said Dr. Carol Gabriele, Associate Dean for Health Sciences and Director of NVCC’s nursing program.

NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. said “I am delighted, once again, to celebrate the achievements of our students, our generous and talented faculty, and one more recognition of the program. Our nursing program is a model, and I am immensely grateful to our dedicated faculty and staff who mentor our students ensuring they are successful in the classroom and in their future professional and academic endeavors.”

NVCC’s associate degree nursing program is comprised of a four-semester curriculum with sixty-eight credits required for graduation. Graduates are awarded an associate in science degree in nursing and are eligible to apply for licensure through NCLEX-RN and from the CT Department of Public Health. Graduates of the program have the opportunity to continue their education at a number of baccalaureate and advanced degree programs throughout the state and nationally. The general education courses and nursing courses in the program are sequenced to build from fundamental skills to complex critical thinking skills. According to the most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics report the job outlook for RNs between 2016-2026 is ranked as “faster than average”. NVCC’s program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) through 2025. For more information, visit nv.edu/nursing
