On Tuesday when the rest of campus arrived for the start of fall classes, the SGA worked to raise funds for the “United Way Bed Race” by selling cards with a mattress on wheels graphic. The card was designed to publicize the upcoming race. The funds collected during this initiative will go towards the $750 entrance fee to purchase a mattress which they will race down Grand Street on October 14, 2017. Anyone interested in supporting their efforts may make a donation at the Student Activities Office located in S514, weekdays from 8 am to 4 pm.  Any funds raised above the entrance fee will go directly to the United Way as a donation from the NVCC Student Government Association.

 All funds raised will support United Way of Greater Waterbury’s work in the areas of education, financial stability and basic needs throughout their 10-town service area.  Brian Amero, Director of Resource Development for United Way shared, “Come one, come all, rain or shine. Working together throughout the year, NVCC students regularly volunteer their time and energy by lending a helping hand.   Whether it be the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen, Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Special Olympics or so many other community partners, our students engage in service learning and volunteering which helps them better prepare for their future.  NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis commented that “there is a sense of community and care, NVCC cares, and our students exemplify that in so many generous ways. I am so very proud of our SGA leadership and of all our students.”
