NVCC Nursing Graduate Makes a Difference in Critical Care
Pablo P. DeOliveira studied at Naugatuck Valley Community College for six years during which he earned 3 degrees – Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences May 25, 2012; Associate of Arts in Mathematics/Science May 28, 2015; Associate of Science in Nursing May 28, 2015; all while working a full-time job as a janitor. When he graduated with his nursing degree he went on to work in the emergency department serving critically ill patients at The Hospital of Central Connecticut.  This is exceptional that a new graduate would be charged with caring for serving such a patient population. DeOliveira was up to the task. He had proven himself by earning 5 additional certifications in emergency nursing care, all while working full time and studying for his nursing degree, a B.S.N. from Chamberlain University

The five certifications are focused on honing emergency room skills:

CEN - Certified Emergency Nurse 

ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support

TNCC - Trauma Nursing Core Course

ENPC - Emergency Nursing Pediatric Certificate

PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support

DeOliveira is confident about the difference these credentials make. “They allow a broader knowledge and better nursing care with improved outcomes for the patient,” he noted.

With a winning smile and compassionate demeanor, he is on his way to a new challenge at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, Virginia where he will be a Registered Nurse in the Critical Care Unit specializing in medical, surgical and trauma patients. His interest in medicine inspired his wife’s direction. She is on her way to Medical School at Virginia Commonwealth University also in Richmond. DeOliveira is ultimately planning to advance his career to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). For the DeOliveiras, medicine is a family affair.
