NVCC Hosts Annual Diversity in STEM Seminar with T.J. Pruitt

This November 18th STEM educational event is free and open to the public

Like science? Considering pursuing an education or career in STEM? Join us on Wednesday, November 18th when NVCC hosts the Annual Minorities in STEM Seminar. T.J. Pruitt from Alabama Power Company will speak to students about his professional experiences using engineering and computer science, his philanthropic efforts to inspire the next generation of STEM students, and the adversities he has overcome to become a well-respected STEM professional. The seminar is the second in what will be an annual forum for respected STEM professionals to share their careers, perspectives, and experiences about the personal and intellectual journeys they have undertaken to get where they are today. NVCC students and local high school students may attend to learn more about STEM career paths. The public is also invited to register for the free event by calling 203-596-2175.  

The event is sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Scott Lawrence Pond Memorial Fund through the Naugatuck Valley Community College Foundation.

 About TJ Pruitt 
 Engineering SupervisorAlabama Power Company 

TJ Pruitt is the Engineering Supervisor for Alabama Power Company in the Clanton Operations. He is responsible for a team of engineers and line crew which cover Clanton, Jemison, Mitchell Lake, Lay Lake, and surrounding areas. 

TJ is a graduate of Baldwin County High School in Bay Minette, Alabama and began his employment with Alabama Power Company as a co-op at Plant Barry Steam Plant.   He graduated from Auburn University in 2006 and received his Masters of Engineering in 2014 from the University of Alabama, Birmingham.  

TJ has progressed through roles at Alabama Power Company including Engineering Supervisor in Selma, Engineering Supervisor in Montgomery, Assistant to the Birmingham Distribution Manager, Special Projects Engineer, and various engineering roles in Southern and Birmingham Division.  

He serves on the Auburn University Young Engineering Alumni Council and is active in the community. He is a leader in the Alabama Power Company Academic Excellence Program, INROADS, and serves on the Dallas County United Way Board.  In 2014, TJ was selected as the first male member of the 100 Women Strong Organization at Auburn University.
