The top ten students, based on GPA, were selected for additional free educational training in the field of Additive Manufacturing and Solid Works.  This mini one-week class is a highly-sought award because it is a valuable accreditation among local manufacturers. In addition, all students who have a B or better average were awarded an OSHA 10 safety training certification. According to NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, the awards program was started seven years ago as an incentive for AMTC Students to perform well in their studies by providing additional training at no-cost. At today’s awards ceremony fourteen students were presented with awards for B or better grades and the top ten students were awarded Presidential Awards. All students received a gold-wrapped book of poems.

President De Filippis, distributed a poem, Elephant in the Dark, by Rumi, a 13^th Century, Persian Poet. She challenged the students to write to her about the meaning of the poem and how it relates to manufacturing.
