More than 100 students gathered with their families on Tuesday, May 27, for Naugatuck Valley Community College's annual Honors Night at the College's Fine Arts Center. Honors Night recognizes students who have distinguished themselves throughout the academic year by excelling academically, demonstrating leadership in their field of study, or engaging with the campus and greater area community.
This year, 92 individual awards were given out, including nine President-to-President Scholarships for Central Connecticut State University, Eastern Connecticut State University, Southern Connecticut State University, Western Connecticut State University, Charter Oak State College, University of Connecticut – Waterbury, Post University and the University of Hartford.
“I am bursting with absolute joy,” said President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. “We have more than doubled the president-to-president scholarships this year… and it’s a vote of trust in all of you and the work we are doing now at the College," she told the students.
The ceremony also included memorial scholarships and industry awards recognizing students of distinction, including the newly founded Ruth Ann Leever Memorial Scholarship, presented to a student who has shown excellence in the pursuit of Orchestral Music, the Rachel D’Avino Memorial Scholarship, awarded to an outstanding student pursuing a career in applied behavior analysis, and six annual scholarships from The Siemon Company for manufacturing and engineering students.
