Naugatuck Valley Community College Hosts Women’s Tea and Positively Male Recognition Awards
Share
Spring marks the time for Naugatuck Valley Community College to recognize outstanding achievement by students who have overcome significant challenges. The annual Women’s Tea ceremony is a traditional afternoon tea celebrating women who have overcome adversity and found success at NVCC. President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. opened the annual celebration with remarks about the progress of the honorees. “Education is the path to freedom. I know that you understand it. It is about opening your mind and your world to another way of being. It is about being able to find employment and grow as a professional and as a human being. It is about being able to help others. This is why you have struggled so much to get to our doors and to study and to succeed.”
Earlier on the third of March, the Positively Male Awards showcased similar achievement by the male students at NVCC. Inspired by the President’s High Tea for Women, the 3rd annual Positively Male Image Awards honored a small group of male students, who despite overwhelming challenges have demonstrated resiliency and tenacity in furthering their education. The Awards were sponsored by our President and the Male Encouragement Network.
