Naugatuck Valley Community College Finalizes Lease to Relocate NVCC Danbury Campus

NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. has officially announced that the College received final approval to lease a new larger, more modern space for its Danbury Campus. The new location for the Danbury Campus is in the downtown district at 190 Main Street, across the street from the Danbury Public Library and the current NVCC Campus. The entrance is on West Street, just off the corner of Main Street.

The new campus occupies approximately 20,000 sq. feet, which is over three times the size of the current campus at 183 Main Street. The larger space facilitates improved resources for NVCC students who enroll at the Danbury Campus, including additional classrooms; a large lecture space; computer labs; science labs and prep room; a health lab; a large multipurpose room for tutoring, library, and a seasonal bookstore;  a student lounge; and faculty and staff offices. In January 2016 the State Bond Commission approved $2 million to outfit the new Danbury Campus with instruction and laboratory equipment, smart classrooms, IT network equipment and furniture.

The facility accommodates both credit and non-credit classes, with substantial capacity to accommodate increased enrollment in both areas.  Beginning in fall 2016, the college will substantially increase the number and type of courses offered. Registration for the fall semester begins April 15 for new students.

Speaking about the new location and the opportunity it offers for students, President De Filippis said “NVCC is living its mission. We are about access and changing lives by means of offering a quality, affordable education in support of our students and the needs of community and industry partners.  I am delighted to expand our campus in Danbury as it thrives as a college community in the downtown area. The growth of our Danbury Campus, a significant dream for us, owes much to the dedication of Provost James Troup, Dean Sarah Gager, and more recently, to the generous engagement of Associate Dean Antonio Santiago, the wonderful staff and faculty who support our students each and every day. We appreciate the support of Governor Malloy, CSCU President Ojakian, our state partner agencies and our legislative delegation and their assistance in achieving this milestone.”
