Established by the System Office as a convenient opportunity for students, the event “Super Saturday Registration Blitz” offered one-stop access for admissions, testing, financial aid and advising so that students have the convenience of a “one-stop” process to apply and register for fall 2016 classes, which will begin on Monday, Aug. 29, 2016.

NVCC staff from Admissions, Academic Counseling, the Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid, the Cashier’s Office, and others, were available to assist students through the application and registration processes and with class schedules, course selection, financial aid applications, testing and other matters.

New students applied, got assistance with financial aid and met with an advisor on the same day.  Those who had not yet earned college credit in math and English were required to take a basic skills placement test prior to registering.

Director of Admissions, Linda Stango commented that “It was good to have a Saturday early in August.  Super Saturday was well attended and timely because it allows time for students to complete the financial aid process. The event was positive for our enrollment goals because it provided us with an early additional Saturday to enroll students whose most pressing need was for completing their application file, testing and advising assistance.”

Bonnie Goulet, Director of the Center for Academic Planning and Student Success, reported success from the College’s Advising Office, “We supported 16 returning and readmit students and 80 new and transfer students who came in through admissions. The most urgent need was for advising and degree evaluations for graduation planning.  The event had an impact on our enrollment goals by increasing student registration.”

Cathy Hardy, NVCC’s Director of Financial Aid reported that Super Saturday was a success in her department as well, “We served the financial aid needs of 45 students (20 in Danbury and 25 in Waterbury).  The event was important for our enrollment goals because we were able to complete verification immediately, allowing us to award students so they could register that day. Their most pressing needs were verification requirements.”

Sarah Gager, Dean of Student Services, reported that “Between the Waterbury and Danbury campuses, NVCC served more than 120 students on Super Saturday.  Students visited the campuses seeking assistance with submitting an application to the College, taking placement tests, starting the FSA ID process or checking the status of the aid, meeting with an advisor to select courses, registering for classes and making payments with the Bursar’s Office; many commented on how much they appreciated the ability to access services on a Saturday.”
