Spring classes offered at two convenient locations

Naugatuck Valley Community College announces the expansion of its Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training program with the addition of a convenient, affordable new Home Care CNA program. A Home Care CNA is an important part of the health care team who provides services that promote, maintain, and/or restore physical, social, or emotional health to clients in the home setting.

“I am delighted to have a program so vital to the well-being of the community grow and thrive in state-of-the-art facilities. This is one more opportunity to respond to community needs,” said NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D.

NVCC offers a wide variety of non-credit health care programs designed to help individuals launch their careers in healthcare. The healthcare field offers many opportunities from entry-level jobs to advancement potential to self-employment.

“CNAs with a home care background are more sought after than other educational backgrounds,” said NVCC Director of Community and Economic Development, Laurie Hornbecker. Hornbecker also noted that, “home care is one of the fastest growing areas of employment in health care. Home Care CNAs are in demand at home health care agencies, assisted-living facilities, and adult day-care centers. The new Home Care Lab provides students the opportunity to adapt care skills in a real home environment.  They will be able to practice assisting patients to prepare nutritional meals using adaptive equipment in a working kitchen.  The working bathroom with half wall provides expert instructors the opportunity to monitor and teach Home Care CNA’s to safely manage bathing and toileting. ”

NVCC’s new expanded Danbury campus-section will meet for five sessions on Monday and Wednesday evenings from March 27-April 10. The Waterbury weekend section is scheduled from May 5 -7 in NVCC’s brand new state-of-the-art lab facilities, located in the Center for Health Sciences at Founders Hall.  Interested parties may contact Lifelong Learning at 203-575-8029 for additional information or to register.
