Naugatuck Events Management Club Goes Behind the Scenes at Mohegan Sun

The NVCC Job Placement Center, in partnership with the Naugatuck Events Management Club, sponsored a behind-the-scenes tour of Mohegan Sun on April 4, 2014.
The day kicked off with a documentary of the Mohegan tribe, which included the conception and birth of Mohegan Sun as one of New England's premiere casinos. Students then had the opportunity to meet with a number of high profile employees and managers throughout the organization who talked about the opportunities available in different career paths.
Bill Donehey, tour organizer and the Casino's performance improvement manager, talked about his roots in hospitality and how they helped prepare him for his position today. Ann Murphy, human resources, described the breadth of positions available, the ideal candidate and best practices for interviewing.
Head Chef Guy Fodor emphasized the importance of going through the ranks of food service and understanding the time commitments necessary to be successful. Mark Mullane, food and beverage director, highlighted some of the challenges food service in the Casino environment.
Students were also guided through the high roller suites, various restaurants, the pastry-making facility and the main casino floors.
