The student body at the NVCC Danbury campus has grown steadily since 2009. NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D said “NVCC is living its mission. We are about access and changing lives by means of offering a quality, affordable education in support of our students and the needs of community and industry partners. I am delighted to expand our campus in Danbury as it thrives as a college community in the downtown area.”
The Student Government Association (SGA), clubs and activities are thriving on the new campus. One feature that allows Danbury senators to feel more involved is the use of Mondo pads in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) to livestream SGA meetings to Danbury, uniting both campuses. This is just one of the exciting benefits of the new and improved space that enriches the lives of Danbury students—and the local community.
The new campus occupies approximately 20,000 sq. feet, which is over three times the size of the previous campus. The larger space facilitates improved resources for students who enroll at the Danbury campus, including additional classrooms; a large lecture space; computer labs; science labs; a health lab; a large multipurpose room for tutoring, library, a seasonal bookstore; and a student lounge. The facility accommodates both credit and non-credit classes, with substantial capacity to accommodate increased enrollment in both areas. The College has substantially increased the number and type of courses offered, including a new Weekend College.
Business Management and General Studies degrees as well as credit certificates in Administrative Support and Business Management are offered from start to finish in Danbury. Students can also register for any of NVCC’s 88 credit degrees or certificates when starting here, including an Advanced Manufacturing Technology certificate offered in collaboration with Henry Abbott Technical High School.
Through the College’s new part-time accelerated weekend Business Management Certificate and/or degree program, students who work full-time can get an associate degree or certificate in Business Management. The new program offers the opportunity to complete a fully transferrable associate degree in two or three years, by attending part-time classes that meet on weekends. The new Weekend College is available at both the Waterbury and Danbury campuses. Classes will be held on Friday evening and Saturdays (Sundays-Waterbury campus only.) Financial aid is available for qualified students.
Danbury credit students receive a free unlimited Housatonic Area Regional Transit bus pass. In addition, the college recently partnered with Peter Pan bus lines to offer its students a transportation link between NVCC’s Danbury and Waterbury campuses at a significantly reduced rate of $2.00 per one-way trip.
The NVCC Danbury team is ready to help you get started. Spring classes begin January 19, 2017 at both campuses. Call them at 203-437-9699. Offices are open Monday - Friday 8- 5; parking is available at street level and it is free for registered students in the Terence E. McNally Patriot Garage.
