Brass City Comic Con Donates Proceeds to Safe Haven

For the past five years, NVCC English Professor William H. Foster III and Robert Lyons, owner of Legends of Superheros in Middlebury, have teamed up to coordinate the Brass City Comic Con, an annual comic book convention which brought more than 450 guests to this summer’s July 20th event at Naugatuck Valley Community College.  The convention offered hands-on activities, discussion panels, a diverse mix of vendors selling toys, action figures and collectibles and opportunities for autographs. “There’s something for everyone in the whole family,” Foster said.  “You don’t have to look hard to find a comic book lover,” said Foster. “It’s a great venue to encourage local talent and fertile ground for writers.”

A portion of the proceeds from the event was donated to Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury, Inc., a provider of free shelter and confidential services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.  Louisa Printz, Community Educator of Safe Haven, visited with Foster and Lyons and accepted the check with much appreciation and commented, “This donation will help offset some of the expenses of running the shelter.”
