All-College Meeting Wraps Up Fall Semester, Offers Time to Reflect on 2017 Accomplishments
Naugatuck Valley Community College faculty and staff gathered on December 7 for the end-of-semester All-College Meeting. The agenda included an update on campus office renovations by former NVCC Provost and Senior Dean of Administration, James Troup; approval of the applicants for the January 2018 degree conferral; voting on Curriculum and Educational Affairs Committee items, and an update on NVCC’s Vanguard Academy, a new initiative that will promote excellence in teaching, learning, and service to support the NVCC mission, values, and strategic goals.

“I am comforted by your presence as I join you this afternoon to mark the end of another academic semester and give thanks for the talent of so many who work hard and share generously with the NVCC family,” said NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. in her opening remarks.

Joined by former Deans James Troup and Irene Rios-Knauf and Director of Human Resources Kim Carolina, President De Filippis presented six long-time employees of the College emeritus awards. President De Filippis highlighted the employee’s contributions to NVCC over the years and thanked them for their dedicated service to the College. Eleven recent retirees were also honored for their service to the College.  Following this, three employees were recognized for their service in the areas of Academic Affairs, Student Services, and Administration and service awards for employees completing `10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 40 years of state service were also honored.

The event concluded with a talent show highlighting the extensive and varied talents of NVCC students, faculty, staff, and community members. The show, produced by NVCC Payroll Clerk Yolanda Crowder and Library Services Director Jaime Hammond, included seven acts ranging from acapella to a choreographed Chinese Dance, and featured:
 

  • A performance of songs “Ben” and “Noel” by members of CAPSS
  • Singing by a cappella group, "Fermata the Valley"
  • Performance of original song “Pocket Sized Man” by William Carleton
  • Performance by NVCC barbershop quartet, "Valley Voicemale"
  • Chinese Classic Dance  Performance, “Flowers Zhang Yan” including NVCC staff and community members
  • Singing by Provost Jim Troup accompanied by faculty-member Gilad Harel
