All-College Meeting Opens Spring Semester at NVCC
Naugatuck Valley Community College faculty and staff gathered on February 1 for the beginning-of-semester All-College Meeting. The agenda included the launch of the “Doing our P.A.R.T.” initiative focused on, “paying attention to retention today!” Following this, Jason Seabury, Associate Professor of Mathematics, led one of the most creative voting sessions on Curriculum and Educational Affairs Committee items seen in NVCC history performing an original song that added cheer, whimsy, and laughter to the meeting.

President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. welcomed the NVCC community and noted some of the successes and achievements witnessed by the College this year including: recertification of NVCC’s radiologic technology program by national organization, JCERT; NVCC’s recent ranking in Connecticut’s top four nursing programs by registerednursing.org; the receipt of a $75,000 CHEFA Grant; and NVCC’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center being selected as a national finalist for the 2019 Bellwether Award in the area of workforce development. She also announced the winners of the “Beautiful Ideas” proposals. The two winning proposals were submitted by Rob Sheftel, Director of NVCC’s Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) and Assistant Professor of Art Amanda Lebel. Sheftel and Lebel proposed to create a mural in the ACE and with the help of Art students will be seeing the project to fruition this spring. The second winning proposal was submitted by Terry Latella, a Counselor and Learning Disabilities Director in the College’s Center for Academic Planning & Student Success (CAPSS), who proposed to purchase supplies for the College’s lactation room.

“I see your engagement as we begin another academic year with a hopeful heart and a dedication to the intellectual growth and learning of our students,” she said in her opening remarks.  “This morning owes much to the generosity of many,” said President De Filippis.

Individual updates by NVCC’s student government, faculty senate, Danbury campus, academic affairs, student services, administration, community engagement, human resources, and development rounded out the meeting.

The next All-College meeting will be held on May 2 in Founders Hall.
