Thomaston Savings Bank Awards Scholarship to Naugatuck Valley Community College Manufacturing Student
Carlos Novicky, a student in the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program at NVCC was selected as the recipient of the annual Thomaston Saving Bank Manufacturing Scholarship Award. Based on academic performance and a recommendation from the NVCC manufacturing instructors, the award recognizes a student who lives in a town serviced by the Bank.

Deirdre D’Amore, Enrollment/Retention Specialist for the Advanced Manufacturing Program at NVCC, commented, “Carlos Novicky is a most deserving recipient of the award.  He began classes with us in January of 2020 and, like many students, initially struggled when we had to pivot to online courses due to the pandemic.  This fall he returned into our hybrid model, a combination of online and on-campus courses, and was highly successful. Carlos was also selected as a top 10 student in our Campus CEO Initiative Award to be presented on January 11th.”

Novicky expressed enthusiasm and gratitude for the program and the scholarship. “The manufacturing program at NVCC has great teachers and a solid curriculum; it is amazing. This is my second time taking this course since COVID19. As for the scholarship I am very thankful for this honor and support. I know there are many talented and smart people in this program, so it came as a surprise to me. As for my future in the trade, my goal is to continue to improve the quality of my work.”

For Naugatuck Valley Community College, the scholarship has become an annual event aligned with serving the local manufacturing industry. Cheryl Lindstrom, Community Outreach Officer Thomaston Savings Bank explains that “Thomaston Savings Bank recognizes the importance of the manufacturing industry to our state and local communities as well as their significant contributions to our economy.  Supporting our local manufacturers is key to job growth and productivity. The Thomaston Savings Bank Foundation, Inc. is proud to further back this industry by assisting with funding the education of a future manufacturer. We are pleased to award Advanced Manufacturing student, Carlos Novicky, with a $2,500 scholarship.  Carlos is an enthusiastic, dedicated student deserving of this award.  We wish him well in continuing his education at NVCC as well as in all of his future endeavors.”
