President’s Office Adds Executive Assistant to Staff

Waterbury, CT - President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., welcomes NVCC’s newest staff member Beth A. Monchun into the role of executive assistant to the president. Monchun brings more than ten years of professional experience to her new position.
Prior to joining the College, Monchun served as constituency director to Congressman John B. Larson, an office in which she began as an intern in 2003 while earning her bachelor’s degree in history from Charter Oak State College. As part of a staff of twelve, Monchun focused on helping citizens mitigate problems with federal agencies and in particular, Immigration Services.
Her favorite work, however, dealt with students.
“I ran the internship program for eight years, working with students from pretty much all of the local colleges,” said Monchun. “We had such a high level of interest that we had to split up the week to allow students to get the experience that they needed.”
According to Monchun, the Office would host anywhere from 2-6 students in the fall and spring semesters.
“The other great part of my job was helping students apply to service academies – West Point, the Naval Academy and others,” said Monchun. “Anyone applying to a United States Service academy requires legislative nomination, so I helped vet a lot of applications and worked hands-on with students to get a placement that worked for them.”
While Monchun enjoyed the multi-faceted opportunities of her work, she is excited about the new opportunity offered to her at Naugatuck Valley Community College.
“I’ve always enjoyed working with students and I look forward to working with them more as the full scope of my work takes shape and evolves.”
Monchun can be reached at 203-575-8044,
