Share
The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc., (ABET, Inc.) is a non-governmental organization that accredits post-secondary education programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. A federation of 35 professional and technical member societies representing these fields, ABET reviews curriculum for accredited programs every six years. NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., the faculty, and staff of STEM Division’s Engineering Technology Department hosted the ABET re-accreditation site visit team from October 9-11. In addition to the President, the ABET visiting team was met by Provost and Senior Dean of Administration, James Troup, Dean of Academic Affairs, Irene Rios-Knauf, Ed.D., STEM Division Director, Peter Angelastro, Ph.D., Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) Program Coordinator, Kristen Dagan McGee, Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) Coordinator, Narendra Sharma, Ph.D., NVCC EET and MET Industry Advisory Board Members, EET and MET alumni, faculty, staff, and students. Dr. Peter Angelastro reported that the visit was successful, “the ABET visiting team was impressed by the strong curriculum in the EET and MET programs, the laboratory facilities in Technology Hall, and the support students receive by staff throughout the college – from Kinney Hall to Technology Hall. There were no weaknesses or deficiencies noted by the visiting team for either program. The official vote for re-accreditation will not occur until July 2017; however, there was no indication that either program would not receive accreditation.”
