NVCC’s Radiologic Technology Program Receives Reaccreditation Through 2026
The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) awarded NVCC’s associate degree radiography program with reaccreditation for eight years, the maximum duration that may be awarded. To earn JCERT accreditation, the program underwent self-study, collected and submitted data and reports, and underwent a two-day site visit by a team of peer reviewers. The process took about a year and NVCC’s program was evaluated according to six standards: integrity, resources, curriculum and academic practices, health and safety, assessment, and institutional/programmatic data.

Mark Martone, Program Director and an Associate Professor in NVCC’s Radiologic Technology Program, is an alumnus of the program and after many years of working in the field, he was thrilled to be given the opportunity to return to his roots and spend this chapter of his career giving back to a place that made many things possible in his life. “Our program is strong because of the alumni who have returned back to NVCC to teach, work with current students, and oversee its success.”

Giving back to the program is not a unique quality: 14 of the program’s instructors are alumni as is Professor Antonio Santos Jr., who serves as the program’s clinical coordinator.  What does this say about NVCC’s program? “We graduated students in these programs that are professionally successful and proficient enough to run it,” said Santos.

NVCC’s program prepares students to enter the workplace as Radiologic Technologists, allied health professionals who are qualified to use x-rays to produce diagnostic images of the human body. Students in the program learn to perform: diagnostic x-ray procedures such as chest, skeletal survey, abdomen Computerized Axial Tomography (CT or CAT scan) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). In addition, students learn to: administer contrast media to visualize the gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary system and vascular system, and assist the radiologist during specialized procedures such as myelography, angiography and other interventional exams.

Among the hallmarks of the program are its measures of student success. These include:

  • A  24-year 100% first-time pass rate for graduates completing the A.R.R.T. exam
  • A 92.6% five-year average job placement rate within twelve months of graduation
  • An 84% program completion rate for the past five years.

President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. said, “I am incredibly proud of the difference our students and faculty are making in the health care area. The team that works hand-in-hand with our students and our health care partners is caring, professional and collaborative. Bravo!”
