NVCC to Host Fourth Annual Brass City Comic Convention

Waterbury, Conn. – Naugatuck Valley Community College will host the fourth annual Brass City Comic Convention from 10 am – 6 pm on Sunday, July 28 in the NVCC Ruth Ann Leever Atrium. Admission is $2.99 for adults and free for kids under 12 years of age and under, as well as any guest wearing a costume. Profits from the convention will be donated to Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury.

Confirmed guests include:

  • Jack Purcell, pencil and ink illustrator for Heavy Metal magazine, Marvel and DC
  • Luke McDonnell, illustrator for Marvel Comic’s Iron Man, The Phantom and more
  • Trevor Von Eeden, artist for Black Lightning, which headlined one of the first black superheroes in DC Comics,  & Green Arrow
  • Craig Yoe, comic book historian
  • William H. Foster III, professor at Naugatuck Valley Community College and comic book historian

Recognized nationally for his expertise in the history of blacks in comic books, Foster said this year’s convention promises to be a crowd-pleaser, with activities such as art battles, discussion panels and thrilling presentations on tap for the event.

“This is our fourth year bringing this fun family event to the Naugatuck Valley Community College campus, and we’ve added several new events and brought back a couple of favorites as well,” Foster said. “As far as I’m concerned, this is a terrific way to raise money for a worthy cause.”

Comic books, toys and collectibles will be available for sale and there will be raffles every hour. Each family will also receive a free comic book.
