NVCC Open House 2014 Brings New Students and Families to Campus

Tours, workshops and information booths helped students explore possible education paths

On Sunday, April 27, 2014, 650 potential students and their family members arrived at NVCC's Technology Hall for the College's Second Annual House. Information booths filled the Technology Hall atrium and tours departed every 15 minutes on the hour, while workshops were held consecutively on topics ranging from the admissions process to transfer and dual admissions.

"We actually had to start the tours early because I had people lining the hallways ten minutes in," describes Admissions Director Linda Stango.

Hospitality Director Karen Rotella and the NVCC Events Management Club served freshly made appetizers as attendees made their way through the culinary and viticulture quarters. Students and staff were also stationed at campus hot spots like the ACE, Library, Prism Lounge and Job Placement Center to provide a snapshot of life on campus.

"I believe bumper-to-bumper is the term you want to use," said President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., as she tried to explain the magnitude of Sunday's event to Monday's Greater Waterbury Educational Leadership Breakfast. "People said to me, Daisy, there are so many people here and I told them, 'there's a good reason for that. We are doing really wonderful things here.'"
