Like science? Considering pursuing an education or career in STEM? Join us on Wednesday, March 27 when NVCC hosts the Scott Lawrence Pond Memorial Women in Science Seminar where five accomplished female scientists will speak with students. The seminar will be held in Founders Hall, Community Room F101 beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The seminar provides a yearly forum in which local women scientists share perspectives and experiences about the personal and intellectual journeys each has undertaken to get where they are today. NVCC students and approximately 30 local high school girls will attend to learn more about STEM career paths. The public is also invited to register for the free event by calling 203-596-2175.

NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. said, “I celebrate the initiative and talent of our faculty and generous community partners to provide an introduction to the possibility of careers in science for women of all ages.  Brave!”

A brief luncheon will be provided following the event to encourage one-on-one conversations with the speakers.

 Speakers include:

• Heather McGuiness, Quality Assurance Specialist, Yale Center of Clinical Investigation, Yale University
• Jennifer Pagach, Associate Director of the Goodwin Niering Center for the Environment, Connecticut College
• Robin Ganter, Student, Yale School of Nursing (former Head Athletic Trainer)      
• Renée March, Owner of A Simpler Place, a Gardening Design Business
• Rachel Sackett, Professor and Chair of the Science Department, Naugatuck Valley Community College

The event is sponsored by the Scott Lawrence Pond Memorial Fund through the Naugatuck Valley Community College Foundation.
