President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., the students, faculty and staff of Naugatuck Valley Community College welcomed Dr. Michael Gargano, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Michael Kozlowski, Director, Public Relations and Marketing,  both from the  Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (ConnSCU) Board of Regents for Higher Education (BOR) to a “town hall” meeting in the Fine Arts Center of the College on September 17, 2014.

The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) system has embarked on a multi-year plan to unite the 17 institutions into one system.  The purpose of this effort (called Transform CSCU 2020) is to increase the accessibility and affordability of higher education in Connecticut and to position CSCU as a major economic engine for the state. 

BOR executive staff and Executive Sponsors met with faculty and staff during a forum for their perspectives and to answer questions about Transform. 

The program included a brief overview of Transform and its objectives followed by a review of the 36 initiatives that comprise it.  President De Filippis followed Dr. Gargano’s presentation with an overview of the initiatives and a comparison to the award-winning NVCC (2013-2016) Strategic Plan, “Toward a Splendid College”.  The majority of the meeting provided an opportunity for faculty and staff to hear more about Transform 2020, and give opinions about the strategy and approach. The presentation was followed by questions and an invitation to join the Transform Team by participating in initiatives based on areas of interest. The faculty and staff were enthusiastically engaged and responded with questions related to the academics, implementation, funding, and marketing of the plan.
