NVCC Hosts Tax Preparation Assistance in Collaborative Community Program

The program, produced collaboratively by the IRS, Connecticut Association for Human Services (CAHS), the United Way of Greater Waterbury and the United Way of Naugatuck, is hosted at a number of area sites that are conveniently located and accessible by public transportation. Community partners supporting this program also include Connecticut Community Foundation, Ion Bank, Liberty Bank, Webster Bank, Wells Fargo. The program begins on February 3, 2020 and continues through April 13, 2020.
In addition to Naugatuck Valley Community College, Kinney Hall, Room K408, 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury on Mondays and Thursdays from 6-8 :30 p.m.; other area sites include: Children’s Community School, 31 Wolcott Street, on Wednesdays from 3-6 p.m.; Duggan School, 38 West Porter Street on February 6 & 20, March 5 &19, and April 2 from 3-6 p.m.; Hispanic Coalition of Greater Waterbury, 135 East Liberty Street, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5-8 p.m.; Silas Bronson Library, 267 Grand Street on Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m.; New Opportunities Waterbury 232 North Elm Street on Mondays from 5-9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Waterbury Youth Services, 83 Prospect Street on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
In Naugatuck at the Senior Center, 300 Meadow Street on Thursdays from 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.; In Thomaston at the Public Library, 248 Main Street on Tuesdays from 2 p.m.- 5:15 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:15 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. In Southbury at the Senior Center, 561 Main Street on Mondays from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. For all sites, call 211, press option 3, then option 6, to make an appointment before going.
Anyone interested in taking advantage of this program, must bring the following items:
- Valid photo ID
- Copy of last year’s Federal & State returns
- Social Security #s or ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification) #s for you and anyone else on your tax return
- Documentation for ALL income, Social Security or pensions, including forms W-2, 1099-R
- Education expenses & student loan payments, 1098T
- Payments for child care. Bring day care provider’s address and tax ID number
- Bank routing & account numbers to direct deposit your refund
- Mortgage 1098 form & receipts of property & car taxes paid
- Mortgage expenses and/or interest paid
- Access Health CT forms, 1095A,
- Identity theft PIN # if applicable
When preparing your refund, you may choose direct deposit to save your refund. Or you may, split your refund between your checking and savings accounts. Your tax preparer may help you do it using FORM 8888. IRS refunds that include tax credit payments such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), and the Child Tax Credit will be issued after Feb. 15. This include returns being processed at paid preparer sites.
