Local radio station, WATR did a live broadcast from the event. Among those interviewed by the station’s local personalities was NVCC Director of Advanced Manufacturing Joe DeFeo. DeFeo talked about the 100% placement rate for graduates of the NVCC’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program. He also noted the importance of events like this one in ensuring students are aware of the career opportunities available through NVCC’s program.
“It’s important for students to see our state-of-the-art facilities and equipment and get live demonstrations, rather than having someone merely talk to them about our program. It’s a much richer and engaging experience for students to see these things in a live, hands-on environment,” said DeFeo.
NVCC Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. said, “I love for NVCC to host our industry partners. Our successful Manufacturing program owes part of its success to the significant support received in terms of internships for our students and later employment for our graduates. Moreover, it is good for young students to be at the College to hear about a future of possibilities in manufacturing in Connecticut.”
On January 31, 2012, the State of Connecticut selected NVCC as one of three Connecticut community colleges to receive bonding dollars for a state-of-the-art manufacturing center on campus to meet the state’s manufacturing workforce needs. NVCC’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center provides students with hands-on access to state-of-the-art manufacturing technology in preparation for employment. Built on the region’s manufacturing roots and enhanced with modern advancements in technology and innovation, the Center is located in the spacious and modern Technology Hall and features manufacturing and technical education.
