NVCC Hosts Semi-annual College Transfer Fair

On November 12, 2014, Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) hosted a semi-annual College Transfer Fair for students to obtain information about the transfer process to the four Connecticut State Universities, Charter Oak State College and private institutions.

Terry Latella, Counselor at the Center for Academic Planning and Student Success (CAPSS), organized the Fall 2014 College Transfer Fair, which included representatives from 43 state and private schools. “It is important for students wishing to transfer after they receive a degree from NVCC, to attend the fair so they can speak to college reps and ask if they have the program in which they are interested as well as what they look for in a transfer student,” says Latella.

Many colleges today have recognized the trend of transferring and how qualified students are attending community colleges for both financial and academic reasons. “Students are getting wiser and receiving their AS degrees at a community college to save money and receive a good education and then transfer to a Connecticut state four-year university,” comments Latella. Colleges are interested in community college students and it shows at events like this, she added.

According to first-year NVCC student, Linda Simna, it’s never too early to begin planning the transfer process. Simna is pursuing her goal to become a science teacher and said, “My advisor and I were looking at transfer opportunities at Southern Connecticut State University, because it has a really good education program."

NVCC will host its next College Transfer Fair in Spring 2015. For more information contact Terry Latella at (203) 596-8608 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
