“This is a great opportunity for both students and school representatives to meet face-to-face. Having a resource and a connection with someone who can help you navigate the transfer process at a school of your choice is extremely beneficial to our students. Transfer counselors always enjoy meeting our NVCC students,” says, Sue Houlihan, Academic Advisor and Student Retention Specialist at the College.  Houlihan urges students who are seeking to transfer to a four-year institution to ask about price, financial aid, scholarships, and how well academic and extracurricular programs align with their interests.

Houlihan says CAPSS staff is always available to assist students with questions about the next step in their educational careers. More than 300 students attended the fair.

The CAPSS office also offers one-on-one transfer counseling regularly in K 519 with representatives from Western CT State University, Southern CT State University, Central CT State University, and UCONN. Students can sign up in the CAPSS office if they would like to meet with a counselor from one for these schools. A number of other school representatives visit the NVCC campus once or twice a year. Look for them in the Prism Lounge or in Kinney’s fifth floor hallway.

Recent initiatives by the Connecticut Board of Regents (BOR) for Higher Education, referred to as Transfer Tickets, have placed a renewed focus on creating a seamless transfer process for CT Community College graduates to continue their education at the four state universities (CCSU, SCSU, WCSU, ECSU) or Charter Oak State College. Successful completion of such a transfer associate degree will offer the student guaranteed admission and junior status to the receiving university or Charter Oak State College without the need for "course by course" transfer.
