NVCC Danbury Center Receives Official Campus Designation by NEASC

College will offer full instructional and administrative support in both Waterbury, Danbury

After years of growth in the city, Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Danbury Center is finally being recognized as a campus by its accrediting body, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Henceforth, the College’s Danbury location will be known as the NVCC Danbury Campus.

In May 2013, the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education approved NVCC’s proposal to offer credit certificates and degrees in Danbury, which serves more than 1,000 students each semester. In a letter dated May 12, 2014, NEASC informed the College that its application to make Danbury a full-service campus had been accepted, which will enable the College to complement its academic offerings with full instructional and administrative supports for students.

According to President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education officially approved the change at its April 25, 2014 meeting, and notified the College that:

“The report submitted by Naugatuck Valley Community College was accepted and the Danbury site encompassed within the institution’s accreditation because the Commission finds the activity to be substantially in compliance with the Standards for Accreditation.... The Commission commends Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) for its proposal to establish an institutional location in Danbury, Connecticut that provided evidence of diligent planning and thoughtfully addressed each of the eleven standards…”

At the same time, the College continues to make progress in its search for larger space in Danbury, which will likely be identified by fall 2014 with relocation possible for spring 2015.

“I am proud of the excellent work we are doing together to bring quality, affordable education to the communities we serve in Danbury,” said President De Filippis in a letter to the campus. “Thank you, everyone, for your support and commitment.”
