NVCC Celebrates United Way at 75th Anniversary
Naugatuck Valley Community College management accompanied Dr. Peter Jacoby, a member of the United Way of Greater Waterbury Campaign Leadership Council, at the Aqua Turf on May 3 as the Waterbury branch celebrated its 75th Anniversary. In attendance were NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., Provost James Troup, Dean of Academic Affairs Irene Rios-Knauf, Ph.D., Associate Dean Antonio Santiago, Director of Human Resources Kimberley Carolina, Associate Dean of Development Angela Chapman, Director of Institutional Research Lisa Rodrigues-Doolabh, Associate Dean of Enrollment Management Noel Rosamilio, and Executive Assistant in the Office of the President Beth Monchun.

The College, with corporate and community leaders participated to celebrate seventy five years of the United Way’s caring for the community. This three quarter century anniversary is significant because it coincided with the conclusion of a record-setting annual campaign that reached an unprecedented $4.1 million. Pipes, kilts and good cheer ushered in the celebration of an audacious goal realized. JoAnn Reynolds-Balanda, United Way’s vice president of community impact, said the $4.1 million would be put to great use.  “We’re going to do what we do best, just use all our resources to impact our greatest needs in our community.”

The celebration was led by Dr. Peter Jacoby, a friend of the College, and Chairman of Emergency Medicine, at Saint Mary’s Hospital who also served as the Campaign Champion for NVCC’s Capital Campaign for the Center for Health Sciences on its Waterbury Campus. During the College’s Commencement ceremony in May, Dr. Jacoby was presented with the Presidential Medal of Honor, a prestigious award presented by President De Filippis to students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community members who have distinguished themselves by their significant contribution to the mission accomplishment and program outcomes for NVCC’s students and the College.
