Five NV students recently attended the New England Science Symposium held at Harvard Medical School in Boston on Sat., March 2, 2013 where they presented on an abstract entitled “Understanding the Structure and Function of Amyloid Beta Protein Through StarBiochem Analysis.” “We have applied StarBiochem, a software developed by MIT scientists, to study the structure and function of beta-amyloid protein,” said Professor Jianyu Zheng. “This protein is very important because the dimer (two) and polymer (more than two) of this protein are insoluble and have been found in the brain of Alzheimer's patients.” Established in 2002, the New England Science Symposium provides a forum for postdoctoral fellows; medical, dental and graduate students; post-baccalaureates, baccalaureate and community college students to come together and share their biomedical and health-related research activities, exchange ideas and expand their professional networks.
