Next Stop: Law School, Director of Human Resources and Labor Relations Accepts Offer to Attend Quinnipiac University School of Law
Kim Carolina, NVCC’s Director of Human Resources and Labor Relations, received a very pleasant surprise in her mailbox recently: an acceptance letter into Quinnipiac University’s School of Law and notification that she received a “Distinguished Scholar Award” for a yearly scholarship that can be renewed while she pursuers her JD. For Carolina, who holds an MBA and a Masters in Management, attending law school was always in the cards, but she needed to wait for the right moment—now that her children are far along in their educations—the moment has come and she will be joining the University’s part-time evening program. She said that she sees the addition to her education enhancing the work she does at the NVCC, especially because it will help her be more familiar with certain labor laws.

Carolina says what makes this good news even better is that Quinnipiac is close to home and it was her first choice; after seeing the law school, she fell in love with all that it had to offer. She was also excited to learn about the externship programs available, especially the ones that practice community advocacy, providing pro-bono legal services for folks who do not have access or the means.

“Dream big, work hard, and never give up.  I know it sounds corny but during my journey from LSAT to acceptance, I kept this in my mind always.  Going to law school has always been my ‘dream big,’ I worked hard studying for the LSAT and I didn’t give up,” she said.

Carolina plans to use the skills she obtains in the next phase of her education on the job, but long-term, she hopes to establish a family-firm with her son who will be graduating from SCSU next year and has his eyes set on law school.
