NBC Channel 30 Interviews NVCC President on Notable Alum, Jahana Hayes

Connecticut’s NBC, WVIT Channel 30 interviewed NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. about notable NVCC alumna, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes. A Waterbury native, Hayes graduated from NVCC in 2002. Following her studies at NVCC, Hayes went on to graduate from Southern Connecticut State University and earned a master’s degree. She taught history at Kennedy High School in Waterbury and was named National Teacher of the Year in 2016. Last November, Hayes was elected as the first black woman to represent Connecticut in Congress. She was NVCC’s commencement speaker at its 52nd commencement ceremony in 2017.
