Naugatuck Valley Community College Students Use Creativity to Contribute Generously to Campus
When the Print and Copy Center on the Waterbury campus of Naugatuck Valley Community College needed College identity and artistic décor, art student, Madeeha (Mads) Sheikh came forward to take on the challenge. She spent days measuring, drawing, planning, working with a projector and finally a few days later this beautiful, bright NVCC logo transformed the wall and the copy center.

When the marketing team needed to produce messaging to support their collaboration with the Responsible Academic Leadership and Programs Committee, marketing student Shakera Jones came forward with a creative spark and plenty paper, ribbons, tape and glue. The team had inherited a Halloween-themed, social media prop from the Registrar’s office (an Instagram frame), while they were developing a campus-wide, media campaign to support early registration. Transforming the Halloween prop was the challenge. By her own admission, a “D-I-Y (Do-it-Yourself) Queen,” Shakera trimmed and decorated the frame to repurpose it for a registration campaign. Beaming with enthusiasm over her artistic resourcefulness, Shakera took the frame around campus to generate a buzz for early registration.

Time and again, we see our students entrepreneurial spirit answer the call.
