Naugatuck Valley Community College Selected as the First College in the U.S. to Participate in Advanced Certifications with Siemens
Four instructors from the Waterbury campus of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center at Naugatuck Valley Community College completed a Siemens Certification training class. NVCC was the first college in the country from which instructors were invited to enroll in the certification program.

The four instructors from the college’s AMTC were the first to complete the Lifelong Educational Advantage Program (LEAP) Level 1 Milling Certificate in the United States.  They will be mentioned in Siemens worldwide newsletter for this accomplishment.

There are five Levels of certification with Siemens. The College plans to have the instructors take all five over the next year.  They are as follows: Mill: Level 1-Shop mill (Siemens software), Level 2- G code, Level 3- 5 Axis; Lathe:Level 1- Shop Mill, Level 2- G Code.

Since its inception in 2012, the AMTC at Naugatuck Valley Community College has placed over 152 students in jobs with local manufacturing companies. High level instructor certification by companies like Siemens makes the NVCC Advanced Manufacturing Technology program more competitive and sensitive to the needs of the local manufacturers.  NVCC is honored to be the first College to participate and places great value on relationships with companies like Siemens.

Joe Defeo, Director of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center at NVCC, pointed out what this new certification will mean to our students or industry partners. “The students coming through the Advanced Manufacturing Technology program here at Naugatuck Valley Community College receive the training and skills they need to be placed in a good manufacturing positions. AMTC students at NVCC now have a perfect opportunity to further their education and skill set by acquiring a Siemens Certification. A large number of manufacturing companies within the greater Waterbury and Danbury areas utilize Siemens controllers for their CNC machine equipment and look for people knowledgeable about this machine control system. This certificate would add further value for our graduates, and give them a competitive advantage since many companies look at specialized credentials, such as the Siemens Certificate, and NIMS Certification as a basis for hiring, placement and promotion.”

Siemens is a global powerhouse focusing on the areas of electrification, automation and digitalization. One of the world’s largest producers of energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies, Siemens is a leading supplier of systems for power generation and transmission as well as medical diagnosis. In infrastructure and industry solutions the company plays a pioneering role. As of September 30, 2015, they had approximately 348,000 employees in more than 200 countries. In fiscal 2015, they generated revenues of $83 billion.
