Naugatuck Valley Community College Planning Summer 2015 Relocation of Danbury Campus
Share
President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D., has announced plans for the College’s new Danbury Campus. The State Department of Administrative Services has completed its public search and negotiation for new campus space. The new Danbury campus, if final approvals are granted, will be located downtown at 190 Main St. This new location at Main and West Streets is across from the Danbury Public Library, and across the street from the current NVCC Campus. The entrance is on West Street, a few feet off Main Street. The building is owned by Joseph DaSilva Jr.
The new campus will occupy approximately 20,000 sq. feet, which is over three times the size of the current campus at 183 Main Street. The larger space will facilitate improved resources for NVCC students who enroll at the Danbury campus, including classrooms, large lecture space, computer labs,, science lab and prep room, health lab, a large multipurpose room for tutoring, library, and a seasonal bookstore, a student lounge, and faculty and staff offices. The facility will accommodate both credit and non-credit classes, with substantial capacity to accommodate increased enrollment in both areas. Beginning in fall 2015, the college will be able to substantially increase the number and type of courses offered.
Lease approval for the new campus space is subject to a process whereby the Board of Regents (BOR) for Higher Education of the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities (CSCU) will review the plans at a committee meeting on December 9th, and a full Board review and vote is planned for December 18th. If the BOR approves the lease, three more state agencies must also approve. After final approval, the lease will be signed, and renovation will begin according to the college’s floor plan.
Occupancy is expected in the summer of 2015 with classes to begin in fall of 2015.
