Share
Naugatuck Valley Community College has announced the expansion of their Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Training Program to the New Milford Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) & Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center. The new location of this program is intended to meet the job-training needs of the communities served by NVCC by making it more convenient for residents of the New Milford, Brookfield and Danbury areas to take the course. NVCC Director of Community and Economic Development, Laurie Hornbecker, noted that “this course is essential to meet the training needs of today’s health care professionals.” Certified Nurse Aides care for patients in their homes, long-term care facilities, hospitals, physician offices and clinics. The graduates of the CNA program at NVCC have a 99% passage rate on the Connecticut Nurse Aide Competency Exam and are well prepared to work in a variety of settings. The CNA portion of the Patient Care Technician (PCT) program will be held at the VNA/Candlewood and additional PCT course sections will be offered at NVCC’s Danbury Campus. According to Hornbecker, “these PCT courses add knowledge and skills essential for working in the acute care and clinic settings. Both locations are convenient for the training of health professionals in the area. Often a health care professional will take the Full Patient Care Technician Program in conjunction with the CNA in order to advance their career potential.”
New Milford Mayor, Patricia Murphy commented on the benefits of this new location for this program, "Having the Certified Nursing Assistant Program available in New Milford will provide our residents convenient access to this educational opportunity, which will produce quality, well-trained candidates for our healthcare field employer base."
The new CNA Program at the New Milford VNA runs from February 10, 2015- April 23, 2015, with classes, labs and clinical experiences scheduled for evenings and Saturdays.
