Naugatuck Valley Community College Joins Local Community Partners to Produce and Distribute Masks for Connecticut
The City of Waterbury has been especially hard hit by the corona virus, which has created a desperate need for face masks. Responding to the crisis, Naugatuck Valley Community College has joined forces with Masks for Connecticut and local community partners to distribute face masks. The event will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020 from 7:00 AM until 1:00 PM.

Sponsored by NVCC, Webster Bank, Waterbury Hospital, the Jewish Federation of New Haven, WTIC radio, and others, the event, staffed by more than 35 volunteers, will distribute 5,000 masks. The volunteers have prepared bags containing 5 masks per bag. The drive-thru giveaway, located on the Waterbury campus of Naugatuck Valley Community College, is expected to serve 600 cars per hour. Traffic control will be managed by the NVCC Public Safety and Waterbury Police Departments.

NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis spoke with WTIC News today about the College’s participation in this event.  “NVCC has a proud history of working with our communities to support our students and communities. The pandemic has seen multiple examples of resilience and creativity in our Waterbury community as we come together for the greater good. We are very happy to be a part of this effort and to open our grounds in the hope of saving lives."

Dean of Administration, Dana Elm who will be attending the event to represent NVCC and participate as a volunteer commented on the initiative. “So many good people have come together and organized quickly to support the needs of the community. NVCC welcomes this opportunity to provide its campus in support of the health and well-being of the residents of Waterbury and surrounding towns."
