Naugatuck Valley Community College Joins Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) at the Capitol
Naugatuck Valley Community College President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, the students, faculty and staff joined forces with the students and administration of the other colleges in the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) system to lobby state legislators for support of their academic institutions in an informal “meet and greet.”

The annual Board of Regents (BOR) Day at the Capitol featured a light menu including desserts and refreshments prepared by our students under the direction of Karen Rotella, Professor of Hospitality Management. They were joined by the Student Government Association and students from the NVCC student newspaper, The Tamarack, Dean of Student Services, Sarah Gager and some of her staff.

The event was held inside the Capitol Old Judiciary Room on the third floor on April 19, from 1-3 PM. The format was a casual “meet and greet.”  It was an opportunity for legislators to informally interact with students and staff. CSCU Board of Regents President Mark Ojakian delivered brief comments to kick off the event, followed by comments from a few students. Miguel Moll, NVCC Student and Veteran spoke on behalf of NVCC.

NVCC Dean of Student Services, Sarah Gager accompanied a group of students from the College. She said the event was a wonderful opportunity for our students to meet legislative leaders, share with them what NVCC means to them and how it will help them move forward in life.
