Naugatuck Valley Community College Hosts Annual Donor Recognition Event
NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, the College Foundation and Board of Directors hosted their annual Donor Appreciation reception this past week. Marth Bernstein, Chair of the College Foundation opened the event with a warm welcome and thanks to College’s donors. Bernstein explained the importance of supporting the College in spite of programs like new debt-free College. “many of our students do not qualify for these funds because they are not first time or full-time students.”

President De Filippis took the podium to thank and welcome donors. “My heart is bursting with gratitude,” she told the audience. She reached out to a mother and her two daughters, all NVCC students, and thanked them for entrusting NVCC with their education. The President has always maintained that NVCC is a place for families. “When one family member attends, three more follow. That is how we make a difference.”

Student speaker, Shakera Jones, a fourth-semester business student too the podium to thank the donors. Jones shared her own struggle with the transition from high school to college and the difference NVCC had made for her- the faculty, staff and support from the foundation. She shared a video documenting her own growth to influence other students in taking advantage of all that NVCC has to offer.

Angela Chapman, NVCC Associate Dean of Development concluded the program with thanks and a summary of the results that the NVCC Foundation had achieved this year- The NVCC Foundation distributed nearly $550K of financial support to our students and college programs in 2019.  122 scholarships were distributed at the NVCC Honors Night reception in May of 2019.
