Naugatuck Valley Community College Foundation Awarded Connecticut Community Foundation Grant

The NVCC Foundation received a grant of $35,500 from the Connecticut Community Foundation to support the NVCC Student Jobs on Campus program, academic scholarships, and the Advanced Manufacturing Technology program.
Julie Loughran, President of the Connecticut Community Foundation, emphasized the value of community colleges, noting that they “provide vital local pathways for education, offering affordable and flexible opportunities to a diverse population of local residents, along with valuable supportive services to help students -- many of whom also have part- or full-time work commitments -- achieve their goals of increased educational attainment and economic security.” She explained that “through general tuition assistance as well as targeted educational supports in manufacturing and student success at NVCC, the Foundation sees this support as an important investment in the future of our residents and in our community at large."
The grant provides support for NVCC students who reside in the 21-town area served by the Connecticut Community Foundation, and consists of funding to support three key areas that impact student success: First, Jobs on Campus ($10,000) provides funding for student employment on campus, which not only offers financial support but also gives them an opportunity to learn real-life skills and be mentored by their supervisors. Second, general tuition scholarships ($10,000) go to students chosen by the NVCC Foundation Scholarship Committee, and, third, tuition assistance is provided to Advanced Manufacturing Technology students based on need.
Angela Chapman, Associate Dean of Development and who will oversee the application process, noted: “We are sincerely grateful to the Connecticut Community Foundation for their generous grant to support NVCC students through three key areas that impact student success. We value the longstanding partnership with CCF that continues to transform the lives of individuals and families through higher education.”
Echoing Chapman’s gratitude, Lisa Dresdner, Ph.D., CEO Naugatuck Valley Community College expressed appreciation for the many ways in which these funds will positively affect NVCC students’ lives. “Our strong partnership with the Connecticut Community Foundation highlights our shared understanding that providing resources and increased access to support community college students ultimately benefits our local communities. Our students enter the workforce with a mind toward civic responsibility.” Loughran further commented: “The Connecticut Community Foundation is proud to continue its close partnership with Naugatuck Valley Community College, working to make these educational opportunities even more accessible during a critical time of economic recovery.”
