Naugatuck Valley Community College Announces the Appointment of New Associate Dean at Danbury Campus

Naugatuck Valley Community College has announced the appointment of a new Associate Dean of Danbury to manage the operations of the Danbury Campus. In the summer of 2014, the Danbury location of NVCC was approved to be a campus of the College as opposed to a center. The campus distinction comes as a result of enrollment growth and degree programs. Since it opened in 2008, enrollment in Danbury has grown to over 1,000 students. To accommodate the college’s growing enrollment, a move to a larger 20,000 square foot facility located downtown is planned for the summer of 2015.

Until January 2015, Dean of Student Services, Sarah Gager had been acting as the Interim Dean of the Danbury Campus. After a lengthy search, Antonio Santiago was appointed Associate Dean of the NVCC Danbury Campus. From his new office in Danbury, Antonio expressed his excitement about his new position at NVCC, “It is a very exciting time to be a part of Naugatuck Valley Community College. As the college grows, the opportunities to help educate our students grow as well. I am excited to be a part of the team at the Danbury campus and I look forward to reaching new heights of growth and success for the college and the Danbury community.”

NVCC Danbury Campus hosts a diverse group of more than 1,100 students including recent high school graduates as well as working adults. Currently, students can complete degrees in General Studies and Business Management or prepare for any of NVCC’s 100+ credit degrees or certificates offered at the main campus in Waterbury. For 2015, the newest program features a collaboration between NVCC and the Connecticut Technical High School System to offer a Danbury-based evening Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program at the Henry Abbott Technical High School. The program is designed to meet the work-force training needs of manufacturers in the Danbury area; it provides students with hands-on access to state-of-the-art technology while featuring manufacturing and technical education that addresses the skills gap manufacturing companies face today.

In addition to credit courses, non-credit Learn2Earn job training and skill-building courses are available in popular health care and business fields. The Campus also provides beginner to advanced level English as a Second Language (ESL) to non-native English speakers.
