NVCC Grads Eligible for Tuition Match Scholarship When They Continue Their Education at Charter Oak State College
Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) is pleased to announce that students who receive their associate degree from NVCC and continue their education at Charter Oak State College are eligible to apply for a scholarship at Charter Oak where they will receive a tuition match for the last two years of a bachelor’s degree. The two colleges announced the agreement at NVCC’s Honors Night Celebration held May 22 on NVCC’s Waterbury campus.

In order to apply for the scholarship, students need to meet the following requirements:

  • 2.3 or higher overall GPA
  • Completed associate degree from NVCC
  • Matriculate at Charter Oak within six months of earning an associate degree from NVCC

The tuition scholarship is good for five years. To maintain the scholarship, the student must be enrolled in a minimum of six Charter Oak credits in the fall and in the spring semesters.  This would allow the student to graduate, if going part- time, in five years.  Students can take more courses at the reduced rate and thus graduate more quickly, take courses in the summer, or take additional courses as applicable at NVCC as long as they adhere to the requirements stated above.

Other conditions of the scholarship state that:

  • Students are responsible for books, tech fee, and any other course related expenses.
  • Students have to meet the degree requirements for the bachelor’s degree from Charter Oak.
  • Students should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to help cover the costs of their college expenses.

The agreement is effective starting in the Fall 2018 semester and Chief Academic Officers at both institutions will evaluate renewal of the scholarship on a yearly basis.

NVCC President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, Ph.D. said, “I am grateful for this opportunity extended to our graduates. If you are one of our students entering the workforce and would like to complete a bachelor’s degree, this is the best option. I am surrounded by colleagues who are alumni of Charter Oak, and I can attest to the value of the degree.”

“Charter Oak State College is pleased to be able to offer Associate’s Degree graduates from NVCC the opportunity to finish their Bachelor’s Degree at Charter Oak at the same tuition as they pay at NVCC.  We think Charter Oak’s online degree programs will offer some of NVCC’s grad the perfect flexibility to pursue their BA while working and living in Greater Waterbury,” said Charter Oak President Ed Klonoski.
