2021 Commencement

Commencement time is just around the corner!

Naugatuck Valley Community is proud to be planning the following in-person commencement ceremonies

  • Unfortunately, due to COVID and capacity limits no guests will be allowed to attend this event.
  • There will be a live stream available for families and friends to watch students walk across the stage to receive their diploma. 
  • In addition, a video of the full commencement ceremony including commencement speakers and the graduates walking will be posted to this page approximately two weeks after the ceremony.  A link will be sent to you in your college email.

Liberal Arts and Science & General Studies Graduates

Commencement ceremony for these graduates will be held:

Wednesday, May 26, 3:00 - 5:00 PM

You will be walking with your program degree, if you are receiving more than one degree – i.e. Nursing/General Studies-you will walk on the Allied Health degree.

Allied Health, Business and STEM Graduates

Commencement ceremony for these graduates will be held:

Thursday, May 27, 3:00 - 5:00 PM

You will be walking with your program degree, if you are receiving more than one degree – i.e. Nursing/General Studies-you will walk on the Allied Health degree.


 Ceremony Details

Download all ceremony and graduate details.

  • Place: NVCC, West Side Campus – enter at Technology Hall to process to Mainstage in Fine Arts building
  • Graduates: Report at 2:00 P.M. promptly – Technology Hall Atrium on NVCC campus to line up
  • Guests: Live stream event Link to view on YouTube
    • Unfortunately, due to COVID and capacity limits, no guests will be allowed to attend this event.
    • The full commencement will be available for your viewing 2 weeks following your commencement day.  Please check your college email for the link.
  • Ceremony begins: 3:00 P.M. 

NOTE: There is no place to store valuables during the ceremony (i.e. large purses, cameras, etc.), so please only bring what is necessary.

Parking

  • Graduates driving themselves should park in the Technology Hall parking lot (Lot E).
  • For those getting a ride to campus, please get dropped off at Technology Hall.
  • For those getting picked up after Commencement, meet your ride in the first level of the parking garage, P1.



Graduate Details


Cap and Gown Information:


All participants are required to wear the traditional black gown, mortarboard and tassel provided by the college. (A student earning an AA or AS degree with a minimum 3.4 GPA at the end of fall will receive a yellow honor cord at the cap/gown pickup.  This is not applicable for certificates.)

Dates for Pickup: (Caps and gowns are NOT available for pick up on Commencement day.)

  • Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 9am – 7:00pm                                  
  • Friday, May 7, 2021 from 9am – 7:00pm      

Location: Room S518 - Located in the Prism Lounge Area of the Joseph Cistulli Student Center  

Please note:  You may designate a person to pick-up and sign for your cap and gown. Please provide them with your student ID#.

Facilities will be available in Technology Hall to robe when you arrive at 2pm.

If there are any problems with your graduation attire, please contact Alberta Thompson at 203-575-8229, Room S514 immediately.  Do not wait until the day of the ceremony.

PTK and/or ABG info: Members of PTK and/or ABG who wish to purchase additional regalia specific to their honor society should contact their advisor below as soon as possible to place your order.  These items are available only thru Professors Bage or Harding.

Important Information:

Diplomas:  You will receive a diploma cover as you cross the stage during the ceremony. Your actual diploma will be mailed to you within six to eight weeks.  Please contact the Registrar’s Office with any questions at 203-596-2177.

Pictures:  Photographs will be taken by Grad Images, a professional photographer during Commencement.  They will contact you directly regarding purchasing your photos.  Please do not contact the college, they will not have the information.

NOT PERMITTED INSIDE THE MAINSTAGE THEATER: 

  • alcoholic beverages
  • smoking of any kind (including electronic cigarettes)
  • balloons
  • confetti and glitter

Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the ceremony.
