Program Overview

When you enroll in the art option, you'll have the opportunity to develop your passion for art in a college setting alongside people who love designing and creating art as much as you do. Whether you are seasoned, up-and-coming or an artist on the side, there is a pathway for you to explore your creative skills, enhance your technique or learn a different style. Earn a degree in visual and performing arts while focusing on what you love. As part of your art education, you will learn:

  • art history
  • painting, drawing and design
  • sculpture and ceramics
  • computerized graphic design
  • take courses just for fun


Earn a degree

  •  Upon graduating, career-oriented students can seek professional entry level positions in galleries, museums and theater productions.
  • Through the CSCU Pathway Transfer Art Studies program, students may transfer to the CSCU four-year school of their choice to pursue a bachelor's degree in art.

Earn a certificate 

A certificate program in Visual Arts is available to students who do not wish to pursue a full two-year course of study.

Art Club

Join Us! We are always looking for new members! Looking for more experience in drawing and painting?  We meet weekly during the school year and our group is open to all matriculated students. Activities have included field trips to galleries and museums in Connecticut and New York City.

Whether you are a seasoned professional, up-and-coming or an artist on the side, there is a pathway for you to explore your creative skills, enhance your technique or learn a different style.

Students in the NVCC Art program prepare for a variety of careers in the arts or for transferring to a bachelor’s program by starting with foundations classes of Drawing, Design and Art History. Students then are able to explore more specialized mediums like Printmaking, Ceramics, Sculpture and Painting while building their portfolios. Classes are open for those who want to pursue a career in art or those who would like to pick up a new creative skill.

Earning a certificate in Visual Arts/Studio Arts will reinforce your knowledge of two-dimensional studio art and art appreciation. These courses are designed to help ease you into college level credited art courses or to continue your study in a more finite direction. When you're done, you will:

  • demonstrate skillful application of technique to various projects 
  • leave with a comprehensive portfolio of your artwork.
