Additional Details

A program designed with the needs of current and future fire service personnel

The Fire Technology and Administration program is designed to provide advanced training and education on the college level that develops competent technicians who are, or will become, leaders in fire protection, prevention, and administration. It also provides training and education for personnel of insurance companies, and of industries involved in fire prevention and protection practices.

Where you'll work:

  • career and volunteer fire departments
  • local, state and federal government agencies
  • Homeland Security
  • industry, architectural and construction firms insurance organizations and related groups.

The fire technologist knows the need for fire prevention activities, the necessity to educate both children and adults in fire safety, and the importance of enforcing fire prevention codes. Because of the broad spectrum of problems encountered and the need for extensive familiarity with many subjects, the work of the fire technologist is seldom routine or boring. There is always something new to learn; however, the greatest satisfaction may come from knowing that the effective fire technologist continually improves the world in which we live by making it a safer place, and by reducing the misery which uncontrolled fire can cause.

High School Student Info

High School Undergraduate Information

The world has changed since 9/11 and the role of fire and emergency services has become more important than ever. We now encourage students to become EMT certified and to take fire protection and prevention courses while they are still in high school. These skills enable us to help others and can lead into a fire protection career.

Courses count for college credit

High school students will be integrated into classes with our fire technology and administration students. They will be treated as college students, because that is what they are, while taking classes at NVCC. This program is good for the students, the school, and the community and lets us all set an example for others.

The following courses are recommended for high school students:

FTA*H112                          Introduction to Fire Technology

FTA*H116                          Building Construction (Prerequisite: FTA*H112)
